Lilies is a Johannesburg-based studio that works across online radio, a record label, events, video + text.
We celebrate the diverse communities of local, independent creators across art, music, social work & culture; and connect them to a keen, global-reaching audience of supporters, brand partners and collaborators.
Through our various online & physical projects - we aim to creatively reflect the lived experiences, voices & sounds of marginalised folk in the city, and far beyond.

having started Lilies out as a semi-regular music podcast in 2017, my love has always been music, first. beyond that, my interest in the way it connects people and communities - in real time + space - grew.
through events, fashion references, art galleries, friends’ afterparties and so on - I could see that there were dots that were not only connecting these things, but directly influencing the way people created and interacted with the art around them.
perhaps it’s because I was around so many other artists with nowhere to show our work: but I felt that we all needed a space to explore these connecting dots. and, more importantly, a place for us to be heard. and so, the idea for Lilies began.
almost six years later, the humble intention to give space, time and resources to many local artists + creatives to freely explore their visions and be heard, remains.
be it through a radio show, a T-shirt, a short film, or any other out-there idea we may have - we are still seeking unique ways of building a space for ourselves to create and celebrate the work that we do - the way we want to.

Our radio station broadcasts live every weekend - presenting shows from a diverse group of resident hosts & guests, each championing a unique, free-form approach.
we pride ourselves in experimenting with the radio form - allowing a truly open space for artists to explore and develop their unique interests through sound, music + conversation.
each year, our radio programme features over 40 underground & seasoned DJ’s, musicians, artists, writers and broadcasters - producing anything from specialised music shows and DJ sets, to intimate conversations, panel discussions, and research-based shows.

our record label focuses on original, locally-produced music that offers new perspectives on the sounds of South Africa, and beyond.
we work closely with local musicians, designers, artists and other creatives to develop music projects that remain true to the original intent/idea - while elevating them to their full potential.
we provide artists space for full creative control, the resources to produce their work and the platform to be heard across digital & physical spaces.
